Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, abbreviated as Inner Mongolia, is located in northern China with its capital in Hohhot.
It borders Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei to the northeast, and shares borders with Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia to the south, Gansu to the southwest, and Russia and Mongolia to the north.
The region stretches from northeast to southwest with a predominantly temperate continental climate.
As of 2023, Inner Mongolia covers an area of 1.18 million square kilometers and has a population of about 23.96 million.
The region is historically significant, being home to the Mongol Empire founded by Genghis Khan in 1206.
Inner Mongolia is known for its vast grasslands, rich resources, and as China’s largest pastoral area, often referred to as the “Kingdom of Pasture, Sea of Songs, and Homeland of Wine.”
