Shandong Province, abbreviated as “Lu,” is a provincial-level administrative region of China with Jinan as its capital.
Located on the eastern coast and lower Yellow River, it includes both inland and peninsular areas.
The Shandong Peninsula extends into the Bohai and Yellow Seas, while the inland borders Hebei, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangsu.
Its land area covers 158,100 square kilometers, with adjacent sea areas nearly equal in size.
As of the end of 2024, Shandong had a population of 100.8 million across 16 prefecture-level cities.
The region features central mountains, western plains, and eastern hills, with a warm temperate monsoon climate.
Historically, Shandong was a core area of Shang culture and a major center of ancient Chinese civilization.
Today, it is known for its strong real economy, cultural heritage, and role as China’s first pilot zone for transport power.
