Shaanxi Province, abbreviated as “Shan” or “Qin,” is a provincial-level administrative region of the People’s Republic of China.

Its capital is Xi’an, located in the inland of China along the middle reaches of the Yellow River.

Shaanxi borders Shanxi and Henan to the east, Ningxia and Gansu to the west, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Hubei to the south, and Inner Mongolia to the north.

The province has a total area of 205,624.3 square kilometers and a population of 39.52 million as of June 2023.

Shaanxi is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, known for its “Sanqin Culture.”

Xi’an, its capital, was the capital of several Chinese dynasties, including the Western Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang.
