The name Yiwu has a deep historical and cultural origin dating back to the Qin Dynasty in 222 BC when it was first named Wushang.

Over time, it changed to Wuxiao, and eventually in 624 AD, the name Yiwu was adopted.

According to legend, the name Yiwu originated from the story of a filial son named Yan Wu, who, despite his poverty, diligently cared for his parents.

After his father’s death, a flock of crows, moved by his devotion, helped him bury his father, injuring their beaks in the process.
