Xinjiang’s climate is typical of temperate continental arid conditions, with significant temperature differences between day and night.
It is home to the country’s largest inland river, the Tarim River, and the lowest point on land in China, Ayding Lake.
Historically known as “Xiyu,” it was incorporated into China during the Han Dynasty in 60 BCE.
